A Trip to Smyth’s For Wigan Youth Zone
Ever wondered what it would be like to have a job shopping for toys? Well today two of the Westwood team got to take a break from thinking about van hire and found out for themselves!
Westwood’s Managing Director Chris Melling and Laura Edwards, our Finance Director, sent our very own Sales & Rental Executive Bethan along with our Marketing Manager Chris, to Smyth’s Toys at Robin Park in Wigan, armed with a credit card, a VW Transporter and instructions not to bring them back until the van was full!
As much fun as both Bethan and Chris had doing laps around Smyth’s, our intrepid duo’s shopping spree was all in support of a local community group that’s close to all of our hearts.
Wigan Youth Zone are an incredible and well established local cause who do incalculable good for young people, from ages 3 to 17 years, across the borough. With extensive, purpose built facilities and a wonderful team of hardworking volunteers, Wigan Youth Zone are renowned for making real and lasting differences in the lives and life chances of the young people whose lives they touch. Well known for nurturing young talent in sports, the arts and beyond, WYZ are responsible for the success and fame of numerous young people who’ve been able to take advantage of all this incredible institution has to offer.
With 2020 being the year it’s been, we know that times are especially tough for families everywhere and Wigan Youth Zone are working hard to make sure that children who might otherwise have nothing to open on Christmas day, have a brightly wrapped parcel with their name on it under their Christmas tree and that families who need a bit of extra support are able to have a proper Christmas.
As always, as a founder patron, we’re as proud as we are delighted to support Wigan Youth Zone in this noble endeavour, so we wanted to do our bit and add to their collection of donations. All of today’s shopping will be packed up and taken round to WYZ in the hope that we can make a youngsters Christmas a little happier. Chris, Bethan and he rest of us here at Westwood are incredibly proud to work for a company which truly cares and gives back to the local community.
We’d like to thank Nathan (pictured above) and his team at Smyth’s Toys in Wigan for helping Chris and Bethan with their mission. They each filled a trolley three times over, piling them as high as possible and the Smyths’s team were absolutely wonderful helping to pack and load the van as well as donating extra toys to add to the collection.
