If you need a fully electric luxury car, you’d be mad not to give the Mercedes EQE serious consideration. When it comes to electric car hire, you can trust us to have the best vehicles at the best prices and in the best specification, it’s just what we do. We’ve been leading the way for years with EV’s so we have plenty of knowledge and experience when it comes to helping our customers move towards what for many is the unfamilar territory of electric vehicles and electric vehicle hire in particular.
So believe us when we say that the EQE is a gamechanger. Just like its big sibling the Mercedes EQS, the EQE represents a huge ‘land grab’ as the increasing number of electric cars take the territory long enjoyed by their petrol and diesel powered counterparts.
Only a few short years ago, electric cars were a bit of a niche market, maybe even slightly gimmicky. They offered a glimpse into a potential future of battery driven motoring, but didn’t really challenge the range, the driving dynamics, the variety or the mainstream appeal of internal combustion cars. What they did do, however, was drive the thin end of the electrified wedge into our conciousness. A wedge showing that driving electric was a possibility.
This is a promise that the Mercedes EQE might well be one of the very first cars to fully deliver on.
For many people, us included, for a car to be a true Mercedes, it has to look and feel luxurious. Inside and out. A car bearing the Stuttgart Star should make you feel like the mere act of having and driving one is a sign of significant success. You should feel like you’ve ‘arrived’ before you even set off and the car should allow you to waft effortlessly around at whatever speed you choose and do so in sublime comfort. The materials should be premium, you should have the best of everything when it comes to features and you should always have the feeling that your car is amongst the best on the road and in the car park.
The EQE then succeeds magnificently. The chassis it’s built on is bespoke and has been built specifically to be used for Mercedes electric vehicles. The bodyshape is crafted for maximum aerodynamic effiiciency, but despite that (or possibly because of that), the attention to detail, the sweeping lines and design language still say ‘Mercedes’ and it’s quite a sight to behold. Heads will turn.
Inside the cabin though, the experience is beyond magical. The design and build quality is second to almost nothing else and we’ve yet to see immersive, dynamic ambient lighting pulsing and changing colour, directly reacting to your driving done quite so beatifully as is done in the EQE. The first time you put your foot down to the floor and all the light strips and dash turn crimson in response to the sudden rush of speed (and it IS a rush), we challenge you not to be completely blown away. Even the seats are lined with light strips. It’s like the car ‘Tron’ couldn’t afford!
It’s not just ambient lighting that responds to what you do, The EQE has its own subtle ambient sounds which also react to your driving. Switch it on and there’s a gentle ‘starship’ type hum. Accelerate and decelerate and you’ll hear what sounds a bit like what you’d imagine the ‘engine of the future’ might sound like; a simulated engine noise, which deliberately has a slight electronic edge to it and suits the car perfectly. But when you put your foot down, it gives you just the right amount of roar – think what a recording of the noise of a V8 driving through a tunnel in the distance, being played through a cardboard tube might sound like. It sounds a bit like that and it’s PERFECT.
What we’re saying is that the personality ‘some people’ accuse ‘some’ electric cars of lacking isn’t lacking in the Mercedes EQE. It feels like you’re driving a living, breathing creature and it’s quite the feat by the Mercedes boffins to have pulled it off.
So, super premium luxury, super hi-tech features and outstanding design… that’s all very nice and it’s beautifully done here, but what makes the Mercedes EQE truly groundbreaking?
Simple, there are two outstanding features which can be found nowhere else (at the time of typing) except in the Mercedes EQE (and in the EQS). That’s a maximum electric range approaching 450 miles and the capability for ‘Level 3’ autonomous driving.
Level 3 autonomous driving (click to find out more about autonomous driving) is so cutting edge you’re not actually allowed to use it yet. This is the first level of true automation and once the law catches up (which is in progress and shouldn’t be too long now), you’ll be able to let the EQE drive itself without having to be carefully supervised. You’ll still need to be able to take over if the car asks you to, but the car is capable of managing the job of driving by itself in many circumstances.
That’s for the future, but the sheer range of the Mercedes EQE is what’s useful now. The bespoke chassis allows a battery with massive capacity (and we’ve gone for the biggest) to be fitted beneath the floor and it’s capable of matching or even beating conventionally powered vehicles in terms of range between top ups. Truly a usable EV and a four wheeled cure for range anxiety.
It’s a great question and we’re lad you asked! Simple get in touch with our experienced team and we’ll get things started for you. We have a range of rental options to suit everyone and for businesses in particular, electric car hire makes so much sense because of the massive tax advantages associated with EV’s and negligible benefit in kind (BIK) company car tax. Everyone benefits from lower ‘fuel’ bills thanks to electric cars being cheaper, mile for mile, than the equivalent petrol or diesel cars.
When it comes to electric vehicles, our slogan ‘Rent: It Makes More Sense’ goes double. EV’s are a bit pricey to buy, but if you rent from us that’s OUR problem, you just get to save a fortune on all the cost advantages of driving electric, so you save twice, which allows you a far better car than the equivalent money would otherwise afford you.
Not to mention the exclusivity of having access to the best car parking spaces, reserved just for chargeing electric cars, in car parks everywhere. And at the end of the day, isn’t a little exclusivity what driving a Mercedes is all about?
