VW Amarok – Volkswagen’s All New Pickup Line
The 2023 VW Amarok is the latest update to one of the classiest dual role commercial vehicles on the market today. As you’d expect from us, it forms part of our van hire and pickup hire fleet offerings. Will this new pickup line ‘rok’ your world?
First of all, let’s address the elephant in the room. The 2023 VW Amarok has courted a bit of controversy by sharing a factory with the all new Ford Ranger (also available) as well as a chassis and some other parts here and there.
While some may be tempted to, quite unreasonably, turn their noses up at this partnership between Ford and Volkswagen, it something that’s already happening practically everywhere else. We all know the Citroen Berlingo, The Toyota Proace City, the Vauxhall Combo and the Peugeot Partner are all, underneath, pretty much the same van and you can tell just by looking. Less obviously, the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson are both, underneath the same car etc etc. (Every one of these is also available at Westwood…. just so you know!). These aren’t the only example of manufacturers working together to speed up production and keep costs down, but just the first ones that spring to mind.
When it comes to platform sharing, there are worse things to share a chassis with than the multi-award winning incredible looking Ford Ranger, but, as you’d expect, the differences between these new pickgo far beyond the badge at the front.
Why Would You Choose a Volkswagen Amarok?
We called the Amarok a dual role vehicle above, so what do we mean by that? Essentially, as with all pickups, despite being, for all intents and purposes a classy four wheel drive ‘proper’ off-roader, with the size, road presence and luxury of a large prestige SUV, the Amarok, for tax purposes is a van. This means the benefit in kind tax (‘company car tax) is a fixed fee rather than being scaled based on Co2 and price, isn’t anywhere near what you’d pay for a Rangerover or a Mercedes GLE etc, despite sharing some of the prestige.
