The Brick Wigan is a well known local charity which needs no introduction to anyone living in or around the Wigan area. A charity whose good work is as vital today as it’s ever been. When local people find their lives crumbling around them, it is The Brick who can be relied on to build them back up again and it’s a community project we’re proud to be able to get behind and support in the good work they do.
Describing themselves a a small community group, The Brick Wigan make a huge impact on those who find themselves, for whatever reason, struggling to make it through their everyday lives. Providing support and real solutions to those in need, The Brick ensures that there’s always someone there to help when help is needed. But what form does this help take? The Brick helps those who, for whatever reason, find themselves homeless, in poverty or facing debt crisis amongst other challenges large and small. They provide a crisis intervention service as well as running the largest food back in Wigan. When people in the Wigan are find themselves falling through the cracks, The Brick is there to help. The problems faced by local people, which the brick helps to tackle are often just a symptom of a larger problem. Families struggling with their finances can be helped with access to a food bank so they don’t go hungry, those sleeping on the street can be provided with a bed for the night etc and the Brick helps cater for these acute needs. But how did those in need get in need? How can they be prevented from continuing to be in need tomorrow? The Brick doesn’t just help provide immediate help to local people in crisis, they seek to understand what caused the problems they’re in and actively supports them to deal with those problems once and for all. Through ongoing support, coaching, training, education, work experience and meaningful ongoing assistance, The Brick builds their service users up to a point where they can live their lives without support.
At Westwood, we’re always delighted to get behind a good cause, especially one like the Brick which actively and effectively helps those less fortunate in the Wigan area. To help them get around, to provide much needed supplies when they’re needed and handle the day to day logistics of providing much needed help in and around Wigan, we’ve been delighted to donate a brand new Citroen Berlingo van to The Brick Wigan.
