Ford Ranger MS-RT
Pickups aren’t quite as popular this side of the Atlantic as they are Stateside, but there are still plenty about and the Ford Ranger is the best selling by a country mile. A Firm favourite amongst both our car hire and our van hire customers, we always buy plenty of the top of the range Ford Ranger Wildtrak pickups. But as many of you know, the Ford Ranger MS-RT is even better still – BEYOND top of the range!
The Ranger, like all the pickups we have in, is a great all-rounder. It’s taxed as a commercial vehicle, so even though many of them just get used as a big luxury family SUV and never see a drop of mud, they’re essentially, for tax purposes, a van, so the benefit in kind tax is super cheap. However, they ARE commercial vehicles and as ‘proper’ 4×4’s, they’re perfectly capable in the mud and the snow as well. Wildtrak versions come with all the fancy luxury SUV tech too, like an automatic gearbox, climate control, parking sensors, a reverse camera, ambient lighting etc, so the MS-RT does too! Even the roller shutter load cover in the back rolls in and out on a button. Tough doesn’t have to mean rough!
MS-RT is an acronym of ‘M Sport Rally Team’ and they’re the Wales based rally division for Ford and do a wonderful job of taking Ford’s already excellent commercial vehicles from the top end of the spec’ scale, then adding some OEM quality (and Ford certified) body kits, accessories and other performance upgrades depending ont he model. These are always beautifully finished, exciting to look at and produced in numbered limited editions. You might already have seen the Connect MS-RT and Custom MS-RT versions we regularly have in.
So the Ford Ranger MS-RT is a top of the range Ford Ranger Wildtrak with upgrades, so what are the highlights?
First of all, as with any vehicle bearing the MS-RT logo, there’s THAT steering wheel. You’ll know we regularly have some seriously good cars here in the car park at Westwood, we’re talking Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Maseratis, you get the picture. So when we say the MS-RT steering wheel is the most comfortable, ergonomically pleasing and divinely sculpted steering wheel we’ve ever encountered, you know what we’re comparing it to. It’s wonderful and we challenge you to find a better one!
Another regular feature on the MS-RT Fords are the oversize OZ Racing wheels and the Ranger version is no exception. As ever they look fantastic and perfectly match the aesthetic of the rest of this beefy pickup.
Also, as you’d expect, the MS-RT logo is everywhere. You know which bits have been swapped for rally inspired kit, the logo is on it all and that’s no bad thing. From the lavishly embossed seats to the side skirts, no-one will be in any doubt that you’ve got a ‘proper’ quality upgrade, not some bolt-on aftermarket parts. There’s also the custom MS-RT graphics, which once again, work beautifully with the style of the vehicle.
Probably our favourite For Ranger MS-RT feature though is addition of automatic, powered side steps. Large 4×4’s and pickups are often a bit too high to comfortably step in and out of, so many of them come with a side step to help the vertically challenged get in and out. On the MS-RT, they’re hidden under the body until one of the doors are opened, at which point, they automatically unfold themselves. Folding themselves back in once the doors are closed. It’s a super cool feature!
Why should you choose a Ford Ranger MS-RT?
It’s a great question, but if you’ve read any of the above, then why are you even asking? If the Wildtrak version meets your needs, then the MS-RT will also, just with masses of extra style and a hint of exclusivity. A better question would be are there any left!
