At Westwood, we never forget that we’re a part of a strong, close knit, local community and we’re proud to give back to the Town that’s given us everything by getting behind some truly magnificent good causes, charities, institutions and establishments.
We understand that for many, the use of a vehicle whether that’s for a few hours, or even a few years is both a necessity as well as a being a tremendous financial burdon and that in some cases, precious funds should be put to better use than on a set of wheels.
Happily, we’re delighted to be in a position where, for organisations looking after our community, we can offer our brand new vehicles at discounted rates or even, in some cases, completely without charge.
Wigan Youth Zone are an incredible local organisation, responsible for nurturing talent, teaching skills and improving the lives as well as life chances for generations of young people across the borough. We’ve been behing this fabulous institution since day one and are recognised as one of their Gold Patrons.
The Mighty ‘Tics are as proud of their roots as we are and as well as proudly sponsoring the finest team in the world, we also support their fantastic Community Trust initiative. Helping local kids and adults stay healthy and active through sport and more.
Making sure that no-one gets left behind, The Brick supports the homeless, those in debt, those in crisis, as well as running Wigan’s largest food bank.
A highly innovative charity, MyLife is based locally, primarily serves the Northwest, bit has members all over the country. The aim of this worthy organisation is the provide bespoke assistance to people who find themselves, for whatever reason, unable to fully engage with the communities in which they live. This could be due to ill health, disability, difficulties in learning, age related issues or mental health challenges etc.
Tirelessly contributing to the local community and voluntary groups in more ways than we could possibly mention as well as financially contributing to humanitarian work taking place overseas.
Also a force to be reckoned with. The HQ looks after the very specific needs of military families, ex-military personnel as well as those still serving. However, the HQ also does an incredible amount of work in and around the Wigan Borough, making good use of the military precision and very specific sets of skills possessed by its members.
A local, values led school providing for the future of the Borough’s young people. As a High School and Sixth Form College, The Deanery Church of England School caters to the education and future success of Wigan’s youngsters, arming them with the knowledge, drive and passion which will propel them well into adulthood.
Sunshine House are based in Scholes, practically round the corner from our Ince head office. Established in 1996 as a residents association, they’ve grown into an all encompassing centre supporting the local community in a myriad of ways. Whether it’s providing a space for socialising, for education, for clubs and for community groups, or for serving as a hub for making sure those who need a helping hand get the support they need, this hyper-local organisation do wonderful work in the community .With a focus on making sure that where help is needed it shouldn’t come at the cost of the recipients’ dignity, Sunshine House make a real difference
Making the most of that time is at the core of what Wigan And Leigh Hospice do. And they do it so beautifully. End of life care and palliative care, while being accurate descriptions of the work of this charity, don’t really do justice to how they go about looking after not only those approaching their last days, months and years, but also the families, friends and loved ones who are facing that time with them and who’ll be left behind afterwards.
Perhaps not as glamorous, but equally part of the community and no less essential in the service provided in both keeping our community safe while reforming those within its walls.
Located just outside the Wigan borough in St Helens, a forward-thinking school with an ethos of “Everyone Matters, Everyone Helps and Everyone Succeeds”.
Education is a right, not a privilege, however, not everyone, for a variety of reasons engages with mainstream education and Three Towers ensures that those have fallen out of the normal school system, don’t fall between the cracks and get left behind.
Just across the road from Wigan Youth Zone, ‘Wigan Tech’ was founded over 150 years ago and provides Higher Education in partnership with The Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT) providing first-rate technical education.
These are just some of the incredible local causes who do an immeasurable amount of good in and around Wigan. It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to either donate vehicles to them completely free of charge or to subsidise their use.
We might provide the wheels, but these heroes are the driving force behind making our strong Wigan community even stronger!
In 2024, we’re equally proud to continue our tradition of looking after the institutions who take care of our fellow Wiganers and doing what we can to keep their wheels turning as we all face the year and the coming years together.
