The very latest update to the large van class from Renault, the 2024 Renault Master, is on its way, along with a new moniker ‘Aerovan’ and it looks simply spectacular. Arriving soon on our van hire fleet.
Updates to established vehicles are nothing new and anyone who’s been keeping an eye on our van hire offers will have noticed several new evolutions of established vans arriving in rapid succession. The 2024 Master is an update to the 3rd generation van, which, doesn’t seem to have been around long enough to ‘need ‘a new update and was most certainly one of the best looking vans in the large van class. However, Renault have chosen to go ahead anyway and their latest 4th generation Master is, once again, a great looking piece of kit!
The current Renault Master is, as we said above, a fine looking van. At the front it’s sleek and curvaceous, with distinctive C- shape headlights and chrome flourishes. However, a van’s primary purpose is to move large amounts of stuff around. By definition they’re primarily utulitarian in nature – a big box, with somewhere for the driver to sit, so does the look of a van matter? Quite often the people buying or renting vans aren’t the ones who actually drive them every day either, so cabin comfort and kerb appeal are ‘technically’ secondary in importance to price, reliability, capacity and running costs. With this being the case, the fact that Renault STILL chooses to make vans which satisfy the needs of fleet managers, AS WELL AS making them look good and plush for their pilots is a credit to the designers and the brand.
So, does the new Master live up to and improve on the (really not so old), old model? Simple answer: Yes. Yes it does.
FIrst of all, just look at it. The curves of the outgoing Master are gone in favour of ultra modern, clean, sharp lines. Those C-shape lights are still present, but a little more angular in keeping with the new design. Renault’s newly reimagined logo, as you’d expect, proudly sits on the deep vertically straked grille. It’s a very ‘together’ look and we think it looks amazing.
Crucially though, this new shape is significantly more aerodynamic than the outgoing model, hence the new ‘Aerovan’ label, which once again keeps the 2024 Renault Master super relevant to the needs of the fleet buyers and bean counters, for whom a more efficient van equates to more digits on that ‘bottom line’. Specifically, the reduction in drag (as well as improved engine efficiency) equates to nearly 40g/km saving reduction in C02, similarly those aerodynamic improvements aid in eking out a few more miles per kWh from the full electric version. When testing their new large van, for aerodynamics, Renault famously had to build a reduced size version to scale as Renault’s wind tunnel was too small to accomodate the full sized van!
Speaking of the full electric version, the new 2024 Renault Master’s battery is significantly more capacious than the older version and capable of up to 255 miles on a full charge. The maximum charging speed is also much improved, with the 2024 Renault Master capable of charging at a rate of up to 130kW, allowing a driver on a long run to add nearly 150 miles of range in just over half an hour – just enough time for an ‘enforced’ coffee and cake break… and who’d complain?
While the 2024 Renaut Master has four different choices of diesel engine and an electric version, that’s not intended to be the full line-up in terms of powertrains. There’s no information on the exact date, but the ICE and EV Masters are reportedly going to be joined by a hydrogen fuel cell variant at some point in the gen 4’s lifecycle – more information here when we have it!
Inside, the cab gets a significant update. Even the base spec’ models benefit from a huge 10″ Android powered infotainment touchscreen, sat proudly in the middle of a streamlined dash. We could write a few pages about all the innovative new uses of technology built into the latest model Masters, but suffice to say, this is an incredibly clever van with a range of features for driver comfort and safety (the van has 20 driver assistance functions) s well as some aimed at making the lives of fleet operators easier.
Now that USB-C is the standard for connectors, they’re popping up everywhere, the new Master is no exception. The Master does support wireless charging as well as wireless used of Android Auto and Carplay, so no cable, no problem. As with many modern vans, the middle seat can be folded down and features a ‘mobile desk’ layout embedded in the back of it, so be van can be used as a workstation on the go.
The cab seems to feature more of the glossy plastics, metallic accents and design flourishes from their cars, as vans continue to get even more car-like inside. No bad thing, however, what we REALLY want to know, is if they’ve done something about the placement of THAT seatbelt anchor. If you know, you know!
It’s a great question and while we can’t give an exact date, they’re on the way! As ever, you can rely on us providing great priced 2024 Renault Master vans at the higher end of the spec’ and options scale, but at our famously low to nigh on unbeatable prices.
