Providing Help To Those Who Support The Wigan Community
At Westwood, our Managing Director Chris Melling believes that those with the broadest shoulders should carry the heaviest burden, so as a business we hold true to those values as well as providing the best car and van hire service in the Northwest. While times have been tough over the last few months we’ve been proud to have been able to help out by supporting worthy local causes and Wigan community groups, as they have, in turn, supported those in the greatest need across the borough.
Getting Behind Wigan Community Groups
While we’re always here to support our community, we’ve increased the support we give to worthy local causes doing what we can to help them meet the new challenges posed by the Corona Virus.
Supporting Wigan Youth Zone
The Youth of Today are the adults who will shape the world of tomorrow and Wigan youth Zone do an incredible job making sure the lives of local youngsters are as bright as possible, giving the them their best chance to shine in the future. An iconic local cause, Wigan Youth Zone ensures that a disadvantaged childhood isn’t an impediment to the legions of young people it has supported, encouraged and enriched. We’re longstanding supporters of this noble endeavour and help out by donating new minibuses free of charge in order to help with their vital work.
Supporting The Brick
The Brick are a fantastic local organisation taking care of the most vulnerable within our society. More than just a food bank for those in need, the Brick provide a bed for the night for those without a roof over their head, arrange supported accommodation for this turning their lives around, or provide help, support, education and mentoring to enable the disadvantaged to move their lives in a positive direction. Westwood has donated a brand new Citroen Berlingo, again, completely free of charge, to help The brick distribute supplies and collect donation across the borough.
Supporting Wigan Council
We’re fortunate to be served by a council that cares and it’s been inspiring to see how Wigan council have risen to meet the challenge posed by the Covid-19 pandemic locally. Through Wigan Council, we’ve donated a pair of Renault Trafic Sportives to the inspirational John Harker and his team of Army Veterans, who have been working tirelessly to distribute help, support, food and supplies where they’re needed across the borough.
Supporting Wigan Athletic Community Trust
We’re long term and proud sponsors of our Local Team Wigan Athletic and as well as giving us thrilling games to watch and an incredible team to get behind on the pitch, Latic’s have another incredible team – The Wigan Athletic Community Trust that we’re also delighted to support. The Community trust are WAFC’s very own support network for the Wigan area, aiming to increase healthier lifestyles, participation in sport and improve the lot of both young people and their families across the borough. As part of our partnership with the Trust, we supply two minibuses, once again, free of charge, which they’ve been using to great effect to transport supplies as well as people to assist people throughout Wigan and beyond.
Westwood Motor Group is IN Wigan, OF Wigan and we’re fiercely proud of both our roots and of our origins. Wigan is an incredible place and it’s inspiring to be part of a community which pulls together during a crisis and it’s both a duty and a privilege to do our bit to help our where we can.
