A Compelling Company Car Choice
Chief among the considerations for company car users is the BIK (benefit in kind) rate. The Volvo S60 Hybrid sits in the very lowest bracket and is also completely exempt from the London Congestion Charge thanks to it’s official CO2 score of 42g/km and ability to run entirely on it’s batteries. For the city based commute, the ability to park in those often empty charging station parking bays is as much a selling point as the ultra low tax!
The ability of the S60 T8 Hybrid to run on electric for short distances makes the MPG figure somewhat subjective. In practice, you’ll fall somewher in the middle and how you drive it determines you fuel economy which makes the figures a bit meaningless. The official 122 to 176 MPG is by no means unachievable, but whether you get more or less is entirely up to your driving style.
So, why would you choose less economy? Being a hybrid, you have both a conventional engine and electric motors. Both capable of driving the car by themselves, but when their power is combined, the fun begins, hence why the BHP is stated as ‘up to’ 400 – that’s petrol and electric working together! Pure electric cars are well known for their relentless acceleration and the Volvo S60 T8 Hybrid can achieve 0-60 in 4.4 seconds – just a few years ago that would be close to supercar territory! The handling is taut and precise, rewarding and flattering the driver without ever feeling uncontrollable. It IS a Volvo after all.
