We’re Proud To Help Urban Outreach Deliver Across Bolton
At Westwood, we’ve been proud to support a number of local charities and good causes, with donations, sponsorships, or heavily discounted car and van hire in and around Wigan for many many years. So now that we’ve opened a branch in Bolton, it’s great to be able to follow suit there as well. This week we were absolutely delighted to welcome Dave Bagley from Bolton based Urban Outreach, here to collect this high spec’ Renault Master van. Here’s Dave pictured at our Wigan branch with our General Manager Kate Close, in place of our very own Bethan Hurst who looked after Dave throughout.
Urban Outreach – Dedicated To Solving Bolton’s Social Challenges
Founded in an attic by Dave and his brother Chris well over 30 years ago, Urban Outreach initially sought to provide for children in need of short term accommodation, expanding soon after to catering for the needs of homeless adults, those sleeping on the streets or working on the streets, offering safety, warmth and shelter where it was needed most.
Decades later, this wonderful charity has expanded to help solve ongoing social problems in the Bolton area, which broadly fall under four headings; Offender Support, Health & Homelessness, Children & Families, Food and Cold Weather Provision. Any one of those ‘headings’ would be a massive undertaking, so a gargantuan task for a single charity to look after all of them. However, Urban Outreach, with the assistance of over 350 incredible volunteers have managed to affect positive change by providing critical support to over 22,000 people in the last 12 months alone.
Delivering Free Packed Lunches This Summer
In term time, some children receive free school meals to make sure that they have something to eat during the day when otherwise they might not. This provides much needed nourishment as well as helping them concentrate on their studies. But have you ever wondered what such children do during the summer holidays went the schools are closed?
In Bolton at least, children in receipt of free school meals are able to rely on the incredible efforts of Urban Outreach who, for the last seven years have been tackling holiday hunger head-on by making and delivering tens of thousands of free packed lunches for children across Bolton. Last year 53,331 were successfully made and delivered. This year, Urban Outreach expect to finish the summer having delivered over 70,000 and we’re very proud that they’ll be using this Renault Master to do it.
The Renault Master Business+ will, we hope, be a comfortable place for Dave and his team to spend the summer on their delivery runs. With parking sensors, built in sat-nav and crucially in this heat, air-conditioning as well as a range of other high tech’ features. We wish them every success as they take care of Bolton’s young people over the next six weeks.
