Wigan Borough Business Awards 2024
The first Wigan Borough Business Awards took place on Saturday September 28th at The Brick Community Stadium and brought together the creme de la creme of local businesses for a night of celebrating all that’s good about doing business across the borough, as well as celebrating the achievements of those who do.
At Westwood Motor Group we’re honoured to have been the Headline Sponsor for this prestigious gathering and joined a veritable “who’s who” of leading local companies who joined together to get behind this landmark event.
Many a good night begins in Whelan’s Bar and team Westwood gathered there for a pre-event drink before heading to the South Stand conferencing suite for the reception drinks, canapé starters and networking. Held on the mezzanine level above the main ballroom, there was plenty of chance to mix and mingle with fellow attendees, as well as to enjoy some special surprises which lay in wait for the roughly 400 delegates in attendance.
All too soon, it was time to descend into the lavishly decorated main ballroom and take our seats ready for the presentation of the Wigan Borough Business Awards themselves. Our table was positioned right next to the main stage so we had front row seats for the awards themselves.
The ceremony was split into two parts, with half the awards being presented, then a break to allow for the service and enjoyment of the evening meal, with the second half of the awards presented afterwards. We were delighted to see so many happy faces and well deserved awards being presented across the various categories and especially flattered to see that the Westwood logo was not just prominent, but literally everywhere. Every single star, every single award, every screen, programme and decoration featured our famous blue ‘W’.
The food was fantastic, with delegates having pre-ordered from a carefully curated menu. While we’ve all been to large events where the catering was a bit ‘average’, but that certainly wasn’t the case here. The food we were served was absolutely top-notch, a truly magnificent feat, especially considering the numbers!
For both halves of the award presentation, event sponsoers were privileged to present Bronze Silver and Gold awards to winners from their respective category and our very own Finance Director Laura was called upon to present the final award for overall Business of the Year which went to the fantastic Greenmount Projects and all but concluded the evening’s formalities.
Our congratulations to all the award winners for being the best and the brightest, our thanks to all attendees for being exactly what Wiganers should be – friendly, welcoming and ready to show the rest of the Northwest how to PROPERLY party!
However, there was one last presentation. Throughout the evening envelopes were in place on each table allowing delegates to make a donation and recommend a charity. The charity with the most nominations would win ALL the donations, plus a cheque for £3,500. The worthy winner being Wigan and Leigh Hospice, already the winner of their own category in the main awards ceremony and now the beneficiary of the cheque plus more than £3,500 from donations on the evening. We couldn’t be happier for them!
With the ‘main event’ concluded, the evening wasn’t over and attendees were free to remain in the ballroom to mingle and network, or return to the mezzanine
for the after-party and festivities went on until 1 in the morning. What an absolutely spectacular evening mixing with the great and the good from all across the borough.
The events team at the Brick Community Stadium did their usual exemplary job looking after everyone in their care and the Audio Visual team also did an absolutely cracking job with the sound and screens.
