On Friday, our good friends at Wigan Youth Zone hosted another of their activity based business networking events ‘Be A Kid For The Day’. It was such a fun last time, that we sent three of our team to Friday’s event in order to chat to fellow business people from all around Wigan all the while experiencing first hand what it’s like to be a young person attending WYZ’s state of the art facility.
Just in case anyone’s reading this who doesn’t know about Wigan Youth Zone… WYZ are an iconic, multi-million pound facility in the centre of town, purpose built to enrich the lives and improve the life chances of young people across the Borough. We’re a ‘Gold Patron’ and are proud to have supported WYZ since the very beginning. It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 10 years now since the founding of this wonderful institution.
Our trio in attendance were Ilesha from our Accounts team, Yolanda one of our Sales and Rental team and Chris from Marketing, all keen to spend three short hours experiencing the Youth Zone, networking and maybe having a little fun too!
Part of the Be A Kid For The Day is to experience just how low the cost of entry is. Like regular entrants, they all paid just 50p to get into the multi-million Pound Youth Zone and straight away had the opportunity to grab a coffee and listen to a warm welcome from the Wigan Youth Zone team.
From there, they were able to select from a handful of the activities and services the Youth Zone provide daily. Yolanda and Ilesha took part in some therapeutic jewelry-making, while Chris headed to the kitchen to make some cupcakes. After their semi-successful attempt at bracelet making, Yolanda and Ilesha headed to the recording studio and Yolanda had a fabulous time murdering ‘Despacita’ on the karaoke – she did a great job with the lyrics…. the tune, not so much!
Next was lunch and our trio caught up and paid just £1 each for a delicious hot meal… the cakes from Chris’s group were ready by then too and were eaten fairly quickly. So far we know of no-one with stomach issues afterwards!
In the sports hall, all of our team had a go, along with numerous others, at a simple but fun team building game based on the cumulative reaction speed of each of the two teams.
Finally, of the available activities, all three Westwood delegates opted to try their hands at pottery, making some interestingly misshapen ‘thumb pots’, some of which feature the Westwood logo inexpertly rendered in clay!
All too soon, the ‘Be a Kid For The Day’ even was over and it was time for all attendees to return to work. We’d like to thank the entire team at Wigan Youth Zone for treating us to such a fun afternoon and also for the wonderful work they do for young people across the borough.
