Wigan Youth Zone’s 10th Anniversary Ball
Has it been ten years already? Wow, time flies when you’re having fun and Wigan Youth Zone have packed an awful lot of fun into their first decade! Over the weekend team Westwood were privileged to attend Wigan Youth Zone’s prestigious 10th Anniversary Ball, hosted at the DW Stadium’s matchless conference centre and it’s safe to say that a spectacular night was had by all involved!
By now, we can’t imagine that there’s anyone in or around the Wigan area who hasn’t heard of Wigan Youth Zone an iconic, multi-million pound facility in the centre of town, purpose built to enrich the lives and improve the life chances of young people across the Borough. We’re proud to have supported WYZ since the very beginning and it’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years now since the founding of this wonderful institution.
The 10th Anniversary Ball, as you’d expect was a celebration of that decade as well as an opportunity to raise some additional funds. In attendance were some of WYZ’s biggest supporters. Companies and individuals who, like us, are proud to count themselves amongst WYZ’s biggest fans. Team Westwood were well represented at this special event, we took up two tables and our team dressed to impress in their dinner suits and cocktail dresses.
A black tie gala dinner, the 10th Anniversary Ball must surely have been the classiest party in the Borough. With excellent food, plenty of drinks and a seriously opulent setting, the stage was set for an excellent evening. Throughout the night, there were wonderful inspiring speeches, entertainment was provided by some of WYZ’s very own youngsters, with incredible performances given by all. We also got to hear a pre-recorded video from a former member who had gone on to achieve greatness after receiving a start to his musical career at Wigan youth Zone, as well as hearing first hand, an emotional story, told in person by a young man whose life has been completely turned around thanks to WYZ. There could be no-one in attendance whose heart wasn’t touched by this tale.
Fundraising on the night was mostly by way of raffling and auctioning donated prizes and the prizes were just as glamorous as the guests in attendance. From an hour in WYZ’s own recording studio to a super luxury 7 night holiday in Barbados (for which the winning bid was a 5-figure sum!), the generosity of the donors was matched by those who dug deep in order to secure their chosen lot. We don’t yet know the final total for funds raised on the night, but we do know that Wigan Youth Zone smashed their fundraising goal and we know that every penny will be well spent making the borough a better place to be for countless young people.
We’d like to wholeheartedly thank Wigan Youth Zone for putting on such a wonderful evening and for inviting us to attend. We’d also like to congratulate them on not only a successful evening and the funds they raised throughout, but on their 10 years of overwhelming success doing immeasurable good in the local community. We look forward to even bigger, better things and look forward to continuing to play our part in support of this wonderful and worthy institution.
